Based on the old email registration the last time I ordered hardware through NewEgg was at least 10 years ago, before we lived in China and maybe even while I was still working for HBO.
I ordered a refurbished HP Z800 with dual hex-core Xeons, 24 GB, a 256 GB SSD, plus a pair of 3 TB Seagate Barracuda SATA II drives. I will be trying to set up Solaris x86 on it with compressed ZFS plus Virtual Box; my MacBook Air struggles to run multiple virtual machines and while I love the Mac for development, it can only take 8 GB of memory and the SSD is small.
In college I had a Sun 4/110 workstation in my dorm room then a Sun IPC and a Sparcstation 5 after that, and for a while edited the Sun CDROM FAQ. That is long gone, but I see it's still referenced here.
As mid-life crisis purchases go, I suppose it's better than buying a motorcycle.
